" Selmasongs "
I've Seen It All "，除了有英倫勁旅Radiohead 的主音 Thom Yorke 與Bjork合唱作為賣點外，火車聲與管絃樂的配合更是天衣無縫。"
Bjork; to identify her music genre is a headache in itself. A friend of mine from a large record label recently joked: do you know why big music shops set up alternative music sections? Because of Bjork!
There were lots of claims that Bjork and director, Lars Von Trier were in disagreement over Bjork's musical interpretation of the film and even some film critics commented that it didn't fit that well; but I feel Selmasongs is an inspiringly fresh alternative to the homogeneity that is modern pop and movie soundtrack music. Because of its originality, this CD can work on both levels.
First, I have to say something to the fans of Bjork; to match the tone of the movie, Bjork brings her music down to earth this time. She uses a great deal of orchestrated music to complement her soft yet biting vocals. There's no doubt in my mind this music brings a touching feel to the film. I can promise you that this album can be enjoyed on many different levels.
Besides the commercial framework, Bjork manages to pull off a hyper realistic musical experiment here. Her use of industrial noise and sound effects bring the film's factory setting to life in the music and visa-versa. But don't worry Bjork lovers, she is still herself on this album.
Selmasongs contains 7 songs: "Overture" is a film themed classical arrangement--nothing special. "Cvalada" weaves sound effects of factory and engine noise, strings and Vegasesque hooks to bring together a mechanically melodic wonder-very interesting and catchy. "I've Seen It All " is a bit disconcerting, it features a languishing Thom Yorke from Radiohead, which is a great selling point and mixes and matches classical music with train inspired sounds-a introspective trip. "Scatterheart " is a touching song talking about a mother's love for her son. The last track "New World" is a feedback to "Overture".
All in all, just like the cover of the CD, the crash between old and new makes this innovative album full of good ambient music and creative productions.
