Review of Ready Player One
Actually, though I have seen Ready Player One for a long time, it still impresses me deeply.
The story in the film happened in 2045. At that time, the world faced energy crisis and people chose to find consolation in the VR game which is called “Oasis”. However, the peace of the world was broken by the testament of the founder of the game. In this game, as long as the player can find the eggs he set, he can take charge of the Oasis and become the richest man. Therefore, the great adventure which attracts the whole world to take part in started. The hero, Wade Watts, also joined in and broke through barriers to become the lucky guy.
Although the film is about the "oasis", the theme of it is to tell us that although the virtual world is fantastic, the real world is the only truth. In the movie, the hero and his girlfriend, who knew each other in the game, eventually fell in love and lived together happily in reality. The tasks that the founder had left in the game were also related to his real experience. Some people think the theme is moralistic or even disappointing. But as far as I’m concerned, it is necessary to highlight this theme.
The film also shows the essential friendship and love elements. And the plot that the partners work together to defeat the enemy reminds me of a lot of science fiction films in Hollywood. Although these dramas have been used too many times, I was still infected when watching the movie, not to mention that the hero was handsome enough in the game.
One of the biggest highlights of the Ready Player One is its details. The film is basically a fusion of popular culture in the 80s and 90s of last century, including movies, anime, music and games. It really pays tribute to many classics just like the perfect copy of the "Shining" plot and the background vehicle in the car race. It makes it difficult for us to find all of the eggs. But ti doesn’t matter, just relax and enjoy the film. After all, the film itself is like a huge egg.
Of course, there is still something I don’t like about the Ready Player One. One of the eternal themes of mainstream science fiction movies is technology's crushing and alienation of human nature , and the Ready Player One is no exception. In the movie, many people were addicted to the world of games, even if the real world around them is in ruins. And in order to buy expensive game equipment, they had to be caught by the unscrupulous company ( I just wondering why they didn't make robots to play games for them since the technology is so advanced)……This is a theme which is safe enough. But I don't fully agree with it. The exploitation of human beings is not technology, it is human ourselves and our greed. In addition, the film's main actors include a white man, a white woman, a black woman, a Japanese man and a Chinese teenager. It seems to be too deliberate and too careful. However, I have to admit that in view of the prevailing political correctness in Hollywood, the director's choice is understandable.
In a word, the Ready Player One is one of my favorite movies I've seen this year. Based on the vivid effects, the novel plot and the feelings add up, it is basically worth its super high score. Finally, I hope that the Chinese directors can learn from the movie and not to make absurd and degenerate love films next time they want to get close to the young people.
