I read this book twice and had different feelings. When I first read this novel for a book club meeting, it was an extremely slow read for me, which could be me refusing to accept such a tragedy. Young Briony, a narcissistic girl, her fantasies have tragic effects which are the driving force behind the crime's repercussion. I was plunged into sadness. One year later, it is not so depressing to keep up with the story as last time. I guess my mind gets tougher. This book makes me want to read more of McEwan's work.
