A very good reference book

This book is notoriously difficult to use, but once you manage to get alone with the style you will probably wonder how it could be written in any other way. The exposition proceeds in high speed without, if you pay attention, loss of motivational introductions and incisive analyses, this is largely due to the fact that both authors are major players in the field. The coverage of the book is exhaustive (up to early 90s), the exercises are challenging yet extremely helpful (one shall be able to work in the area if s/he could really work through a significant portion of the book). The reading suggestions at the end of each chapter are also very useful, which contain historical remarks and pointers for further research.
This text has been made world wide accessible through Osborne's website, where the reader can find also a solution manual.
