Thus, different languages provide different types of information that are relevant for the assignment of thematic roles. Bornkessel-Schlesewsky and colleagues (see Bornkessel-Schlesewsky, 2011; Tune et al., 2014; Muralikrishnan, Schlesewsky, and Bornkessel-Schlesewsky, 2015) provide compelling evidence that there are cross-linguistic differences in how semantic and syntactic information are used for thematic role assignment with the goal to achieve comprehension.
