At the behavioral level it has been found that the time taken to recognize a word depends on the number of semantic features (semantic richness) a word carries (Sajin and Connine, 2014). At the neurocognitive level, Li, Shu, Liu, and Li (2006) showed that electrophysiological brain responses increase as a function of the number of mismatching semantic features by which a given word differs from the best-fit into the prior sentential context (see section 1.6).
