These different views are embedded in different beliefs of how language as a human faculty has evolved. Although both agree on a biological evolution of human cognition, one side believes that language develops in the use of social interaction and communication (Tomasello, 2008), whereas the other side views language as the result of a genetically determined neurobiological evolutionary step, the genetics of which still remain to be specified (Berwick and Chomsky, 2015).
