Millions more Poles were now to be found outside Poland, as members of the Polish armed forces who had fought alongside the western allies, as refugees who had fled the German and then Soviet occupation, as deportees taken to the Soviet Union during the war and awaiting repatriation, and finally as a great mass of displaced persons who had been forcibly relocated to Germany during the war.
