They were usually people who were ‘outsiders’ at school, who had something different about them; androgynous women who held themselves confidently, it didn’t matter if they were tall or short. That ‘strongness’ was in their sense of self, invariably gained from hanging around in clubs with others who were ‘outsiders,’ too.
