This name is somewhat puzzling as fallacies are errors of reasoning, not the mere acceptance of (allegedly) false beliefs. Moore himself used the phrase as a name for a way of reaching the conclusion that good or goodness is identical to a property picked out in other terms, but most later users of the phrase seem to think the fallacy consists in identifying moral properties with natural properties, however the claim is supported.
